Privacy Policy

MarkFort browser extension · Effective date: July 22, 2026

The short version

MarkFort collects no data whatsoever. No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts, no servers of ours. The Markdown you render is parsed locally in your browser and never leaves your device.

How it handles your text

MarkFort only reads text when you trigger it — by selecting text and using the right-click menu, the keyboard shortcut, or the toolbar icon. That selected text is passed to the side panel, rendered on your device, and discarded when you close the panel. It is never transmitted anywhere.

What the extension stores, and where

• Your preferences (reading theme) are stored in your browser's extension storage; your browser may sync them across your devices.
• Your Pro license key (if you buy Pro) is stored locally on your device.

Permissions explained

• Active tab & scripting: read the current selection only when you trigger MarkFort. There is no background access to any website.
• Side panel: shows the rendered Markdown next to the page.
• Context menu: adds the "Render as Markdown" right-click option on selected text.
• Storage: saves your theme preference and license state.
• Alarms: periodically revalidates the Pro license.
• gumroad.com access: used exclusively to validate Pro license keys against Gumroad's public licensing API.

Payments (MarkFort Pro)

Pro purchases are processed by Gumroad, which handles your email address and payment details under its own privacy policy. MarkFort itself never sees or stores your payment information. If you activate a Pro license, the extension sends only the license key you typed to Gumroad's API to confirm it is valid — nothing else.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date.
